The city is a powder keg primed to explode. Tensions at a breaking point with Kick still flooding the streets and the person to blame cannot hide forever. Pro-Mutant rallies are met by Anti-Mutant violence.
And far away from the city, an evil is waking up, ready to devour mutant and human alike.
Stay tuned for more MARVEL : EVOLUTION.

The team put together by Wolverine for this rescue mission of Backup was not what Logan would have preferred for utmost experience and professionalism. But on the other hand, this was the sort of low grade bullshit that was a lot better for the kids to sink their teeth into. Logan was not wearing his combat uniform, mainly as even he knew a PR nightmare would be involved if people started screaming about X-Men attacking a den of very negotiable virtue. He did have on his leather jacket, and had slipped on a pair of fingerless gloves with holes for his claws. The gloves also were puncture resistant in case his hands hit glass or anything, mainly as hands had to be protected if someone was going to fight.
He had on his tactical boots, and his belt had a communicator belt buckle if needed. It might not have been his uniform, but frankly the clothes didn't make the man. Any way one sliced it, Logan was one of the most dangerous and lethal people on the planet.
As for how they found the place, while the bullshit computer stuff was running, Logan had taken a more old fashioned approach. Namely he had contacted people he knew on both sides of the law. People from small time hustlers and smugglers all the way to highly placed individuals in various alphabet soup agencies in the Western Hemisphere.
Get various crooks, cops, PIs and old school spies prowling in a designated area, and it didn't take long to get a name and address. Took longer to verify Kerr was in there, but Logan half suspected it was due to his source taking his time and sampling some of the menu so to speak.
While he wasn't one to normally judge, something about that sort of arrangement always struck him as a bit distasteful.
He'd been staking out the place, and had informed the team he had brought to show up at 7. As the van pulled up a few blocks away, he opened the door and stepped into it after tossing the remnant of a cigar away. "Location is good," Wolverine growled. "Pretty fucking obvious what it is if you know what to look for, but most don't."
Looking at the assembled people, Logan sighed and weighted his options. He knew if this were the bad old days, himself, Sabretooth and Silver Fox would have been teleported in by Wraith. Upon locating the asset, Fox would have taken her to a preset extraction point for Wraith to pick up. He and Victor would have eliminated the guards. Mastodon and Maverick would have waited for a signal to blow charges and gun down outliers.
And whoever was in charge would have been extracted as well. And subjected to the lack of humanity that version of Logan had. And the same inhumanity that Creed still possessed.
But that was not any sort of shit the kids needed to see.
Looking at Cypher, Logan frowned and said "You are staying here. Get your spaceman pistol and if any asshole gives you shit, stun the fuck out of them. Or kill them. I don't care which."
Glancing at Arsenic, Logan remarked "The asshole in charge has a small army of thugs working for her. Probably putting out or having her workers do so in exchange for muscle. Best bet for you would be a second set of eyes down here, and sending in the dino as a remote mauler." Looking at Honeybear, Wolverine said "Figure telling you to stay put won't work. And we might need you closer in case anyone with personality less charming than me gets shot or stabbed. But we aren't sticking you front line." Looking at Shadowcat, Wolverine gruffly said "Kitty, infiltration. See if you can find Kerr. If so, get her out. If not, make things miserable for some assholes." He trusted he didn't have to tell Shadowcat to crack some skulls and ribs.
Looking at the others, Logan frowned and said "If we could locate and remove Kerr, would be tempted to have Mistral just yank the air out of the room for thirty seconds before we go in. As it is, I think we give Kitty a minute, then Mistral imitates the big bad wolf on the door. Me in first, followed by Gentle, Mercury, Old Lace and Mistral. Want the two kids to make sure Ash is covered as we don't know the condition Kerr will be in."
As the van pulled up, Logan waited for Kitty to phase into the house and counted down a minute, then nodded at the ones going with him and said "Let's do this. And remember, don't be squeamish. These fuckers decided being kidnapping little fucktards was worth risking life and limb. Not our fault they didn't reckon on us having a little accounting on them." With that, he made his way to the door and stepped aside, waiting for Mistral to blow it down. He was finding himself at that cool and collected place, calmly waiting to brawl with some assholes.

Wolverine had chosen his moment of attack well.
Seven in the morning was not exactly a busy hour for those who made their money behind the doors with the little heart decals. And for those in the penthouse? They’d fallen asleep barely an hour ago, bottles of alcohol still clutched in their hands and lines of coke still divided on the coffee table. It didn’t seem to matter that Nona had moved from the condemned dump on the 500 block of North Kings Road. You could take the girl out of the trash but the trash didn’t always shake loose from the girl...
No one was watching the doors, or the street. They had no reason to. They were unaccustomed to people crossing them. Nona’s sprawling apartment was litered with sleeping bikers and half naked hookers, Nona’s finest. It was a scene straight out of Sons of Anarchy from the urine puddle in the corner to the unplugged refrigerator that had been dragged to the center of the kitchen for god knew what reason. There were easily a dozen armed guys passed out on the floor, plus several who looked like they knew their way around a brawl. Nona herself was asleep in her bed in the loft along with her husband and the leader of this merry band of thugs and goons. Felicity wasn’t there. James wasn’t there. The rest of the pretty boy bikers had been snorting, drinking, and shooting up all night and were either asleep or out of their minds.
What was distinctly missing was Backup. There was evidence that the girl had been kept there, for sure. The shirt she’d been taken in was hung up on a dart board, peppered with small holes. One of Nona’s whores was wearing Kerr’s white sneakers. The girl’s apron had been stuck to the fridge with a magnet in the shape of Elvis’s hair. Someone had been putting out cigarettes on it. But the girl herself seemed distinctly... Not there.

Kaylee had her doubts about the team headed to rescue Kerr, some of the younger ones were barely battletested if at all, but thank God for Logan leading the pack. When shit hit the fan as it surely would, he would be just behind it, probably sending some body parts around after the shit. Which was exactly what they needed. Kerr had been gone too long, plenty of time for Kaylee to think about it and imagine what could be happening to the girl and resolve that yes, the world would be far better off without the kind of people who had taken Backup and yes if there was ever the time to use lethal force it just might be today. Easy to decide in a safe room across the country. Only time would tell what would happen in real life.
Like Wolverine, she had foregone her usual uniform. Not that it would do her much good if pictures wound up splashed online. At least if she was identified in clothes without an X insignia they wouldn't be able to conclusively track her back to the X-Men.
She had been digging her fingernails into her palms the whole ride over, but when they pulled to a stop and piled out there wasn't any other signs of nerves besides the clenched fist. Maybe she was a touch paler than usual, but probably no one would notice. After all, this was what she did and if the senior X-Men didn't hold it together it would turn into a disaster. This time was just more personal and if they screwed up and got Kerr hurt or killed, well no, she wouldn't even think it. 'Hold on Kerr, we're coming for you.' What she wouldn't give to be a telepath right about now. Not that any of them had been able to find Kerr in Cerebro. What was even the point of that big metal room for all the good they ever did with it?
"Little pig, little pig, let me come in," she muttered under her breath as Logan stepped out of her way and with a thought a gust of wind struck, sending the door flying off its hinges.
It was finally hurricane season in California.

Hopefully nobody on the XMen team present had a good memory. With Ash's combo of a Superman shirt, denim jacket, and jeans, he was basically one high-tech biker helmet short of his usual Brotherhood attire. Sure, he was down a few inches from his full adult height, but it would likely have been enough to give the XMen he'd fought in the past pause.
As orders were handed out, Ash simply nodded. He knew it was a privilege to be on this mission, not a right, and he was quite alright with being told what to do. He assumed everyone else on this team, even the other teenagers, were basically professionals when it came to superheroics. And if not, at least they were probably smarter than him. He cracked his knuckles softly and kept close to Gentle and Mercury, as they'd been ordered to be his escorts for the time being. It was clear to see what Gentle could do in that regard, but he wasn't so sure about Mercury. He guessed she had some kinda bullshit power like so many other's he'd been impressed by at the school. Regardless, he'd follow their lead as the team breached the building following Mistral's entrance.
But, much like Wolverine, he was here for a fight. He was the designated healer for the mission, and he had escorts... but these people had hurt one of his friends. That was not something Ashton Barre was going to take, not from anyone. He was going to find whoever did this, and he was going to hurt them.

Nezhno sat in the van, strapping the Tactical striker gloves he had purchased off of Amazon on to his hands as he listened to what Logan had to say. Nodding with the orders that he had been given. Not a single ounce of disagreement on him or in his thoughts. It was not for him to disagree with even if he wanted to. Nezhno was always the type to follow the instructions of the team leads to the letter. Not doing so was how a mission fell apart, and this one was way to important to go off script.
Nezhno did not know Kerr or Doug very well, but he knew two things. Kerr was Gert's friend, and without Kerr they likely would have had to walk back to the Mansion from Canada. Which would have been terrible, but more importantly. Kerr was Gert's friend, she was important to Gert and that made her important to Nezhno as well and Nezhno was bound and determine to come out of that house with Kerr. Come hell or high water.
Turning to Gert, Nez gave her a reassuring smile. Letting her know that he would do everything he could to make sure they safely got Kerr back. "We will get her back, won't we Lace." Nez said, giving Lace a scratch under the jaw before resting his hand on top of Gert's. The time had come for the team to get moving. "Stay close Ash. If you need to go to someone say so and we will make sure you get their." Before exiting the Van, Nezhno placed his hands over his heart and uttered a small prayer to Bast for guidance and protection.
Moving quietly behind Mistral, Nezhno paused and waited for the signal. Doing as he was instructed and waiting for the Wolverine to head in first before heading in ahead of Ash. His fist balled up tight as he burst through the shattered door and darted to the side. A startled biker hopped to his feet. Uncertain of what was happening. He would find out later, once he woke up from a full tilt Gentle barreling in with a hell up a haymaker. Crumpling the biker like a wet noodle. Immediately he dropped into a defensive stance and searched for his next opponent.

Doug looked like shit.
To say he hadn't been sleeping much was an understatement. Smart glasses had darkened into shades to keep the sun out of his eyes. They were also synched into what he had dubbed his Scorpion rifle and his Stinger pistol to the glasses, giving him an optic to aim with even from the hip.
He had on tactical gear, with added plates for better protection as he he and his case of nerves remembered the feeling of that bullet at Harry's ripping through him. Tearing into his organs. And the sudden cold feeling of death slipping into his limbs.
His pistol was out and in his lap, and he felt the additional gear on his belt. Batons. Small discretionary explosives. Small nets. He wasn't concerned about subtle after almost getting killed, and he pet Indy in an attempt to disguise his shaking fingers.
Cause there was more than one fear at play. There was the very real and very visceral fear of his life as these people by all rights had killed him once. And even the particle beam pistol and body armor didn't take that fear away. Didn't wash away the knowledge of the taste and scent of his own blood.
It also didn't change the cold and slithery terror in his gut and spine. The icy fear that filled his veins. The knowledge that despite what all he and the others had done to find her, they might be too late.
He wasn't sure what he would do in that case.
Pulling up a screen on his smart glasses, he started typing in what looked like thin air to the others. But the gear in his gloves and suit combined with the screens on his smartglasses HUD allowed him to dive into both the deep and dark web, digging into some of the less than user friendly parts of the internet.
Nodding as Wolverine demanded him and Arsenic stay in the van, he kept looking at various screens and started hacking into a nearby Air Force Base. As everyone left, Doug softly said "Well this is interesting. They are doing a test run of a drone with weapons systems nearby tomorrow." Glancing up at Arsenic, Cypher flatly said "Want to guess what place is going to be blasted into glass if she is dead?"

If anyone were to notice something about Gert, it probably would have been that the ordinarily colorful girl looked so drab today. From top to bottom she'd dressed to kick some serious ass. Her easy to recognize purple locks were tucked up under a hat, she had a zip-up hoodie on, skinny jeans, and some serious shit-kicker boots. Gert was ready to kick ass and take names... Though for someone who had tried so hard to make sure she looked just like some generic girl, the one thing she hadn't really thought about was the fact that her dinosaur stood out like a sore thumb.
Sitting straight as Wolverine addressed her, she only nodded at first, "I don't mind driving get-away either, I'll start the engine when you move out." Old Lace perked when he mentioned sending the dinosaur in, "You can send her with Nez, she'll listen to him." No way was she really going to explain why, but she knew her own instincts, there were few people who Lacey even paid attention to but Gentle was important enough that the dinosaur would behave and listen to him. With everyone getting their marching orders, Gert felt confident that they could bust in there and get Backup out in a whole piece.
The next commands were rapid, Mistral would blow off the door, Shadowcat would go slink in to find Kerr, while Wolverine led the charge. They'd have Nez and Mercury flanking Honeybear to make sure that the healer was protected. Okay, Gert was feeling pretty damn confident that she knew exactly where everyone would be, plus Nez's unwavering determination was a pleasant feeling when she'd been so worried sick about her friend. "We will." She agreed with her boyfriend as Old Lace stretched her neck into his hand to see if she could get more scratches, "Be safe, and like I told Logan, she'll listen to you." She didn't tell him not to use his powers because she fully expected that if the time came, the Wakandian powerhouse would simply power up and bust through the place like a raging bull. Right now all she could do was put her faith in him that he'd only do it if or when it was needed.
As everyone started to easily file out, her own dinosaur trailing behind the group, Gert could only feel a little bit disarmed. All she was left with was whatever tech the team had brought and a very agitated Cypher, "If she's dead you better believe I will be helping you launch that thing." God damn how many times in the past weeks had she wanted to just pack Doug up into the car and tell the nerd that they were going on a mission to go get his girlfriend? Taking a better look at the building she moved around the van to make sure she could make sure no one was pulling up on them if anyone came in the back way they'd need to handle them. "Does this place have security cameras? I'd think a pretty place like this would have cameras, especially if its filled with a bunch of paranoid tweakers."
Again Gert was proving that she had more real-world knowledge than a girl her age should have had, she didn't know how dating worked really, but she knew first hand how drug dealers and paranoid users worked. Reaching out she petted Indy as she moved by, checking to make sure that the keys were still in the ignition in case they needed to make a hasty exit.

Maybe Kitty should have been a little more worried about putting the kids in harm’s way. God knew it found them enough anyway. But this was different. This time was not another midnight surprise. These kids knew exactly what they signed up for. They’d seen Doug’s battered, dying body. They’d had weeks to sit with the knowledge these people would not hesitate to kill any one of them. But still, they came. They chose to brave that danger anyway, for one simple reason.
Kerr was their friend.
Giving a single nod of encouragement, Kitty slipped from the van. Anything she had to say had been shared on the trip over. Now was the time to act, and with only a minute on the clock, she’d have to act quick. With her abilities, there was a chance she could extract Kerr before anyone even knew she’d been there. So the girl kept her fingers crossed, but it wasn’t in the hopes of avoiding a fight. It was only to keep her friend safe while they finished one weeks in the making.
The condo was classy, the kind of beachy California chic found in a sitcom. It was a big step up from the trash heap Kerr’s mother had abandoned. And--just like a sitcom--it was hard to believe these people afforded such a place through any honest means. Kitty, as was her specialty, eschewed the front door and instead found her own quiet entrance through the side wall.
Like Nona herself, any beauty to be found in the place reached no deeper than the surface. That was as far as Shadowcat went until she knew what waited inside. The smell hit her first, though: urine and vomit and sex. Apparently everyone just dumped their bodily fluids wherever they liked. Gross.
Coast seemed clear, despite all the bodies in the room. Like their fluids, people here seemed to just dump themselves wherever they fit. Of course if the bottle of booze littered around were any indication, for a good number of them, unconsciousness had not likely been a conscious decision. Kitty didn’t bother to tiptoe around them. With her powers, she just stepped where she pleased, silent as a ghost.
Plenty of faces, none of them familiar. It wasn’t much of a surprise, honestly. Kerr had been brought against her will; they surely wouldn’t let her roam free. Kitty worked her way to the back, toward the bedrooms. Along the way, she left a small armament of easily found weapons for some future remodeler to find beneath the floorboards.
She’d had to help one more person find unwilling sleep in the first bedroom. Luckily, she managed before he could sound the alarm. But with her time half gone, she knew they’d all be awake again soon. Their own alarm was coming in hot.
Bedroom. Bathroom. Bedroom again. Three more down, and still no Kerr. Her worry grew.
The kitchen: a welcome sight! She’d know that Harry’s apron anywhere, even burned with the new constellation. But unless it was attached to its own, Kitty didn’t have time to give it more than a passing thought.
She climbed the stairs.
Kerr just wasn’t here.
Kitty moved to the foot of the bed.
She drew her knife.
As the door burst wide in a wrathful flurry, her window reached its end. The pair in bed jolted awake at the noise, but Kitty was already moving. She grabbed Kerr’s captor by the ankle and yanked her from the bed. As long as she kept her hold, kept them both phased, they were safe from the war exploding around them. But this woman, unfit to be called a mother, looked like she had some fight in her. Kitty would have to be careful still. But unless Nona also had skill, though, this next part would be distinctly one-sided.
“Your daughter,” Kitty growled as she leapt atop the woman. “Where is she?” One arm twisted behind Nona’s back as the girl pressed her to the floor -- and pressed that blade against her throat.

Cessily wasn’t a fighter. In fact, she hated confrontation. She was even further from being capable of ending a life. But above and beyond all of that, Cessily was a fierce friend, and would do anything to protect the people she cared about. So when she found out that one of the first mutants she’d befriended since coming to New York was in peril, she didn’t hesitate to join the effort to bring her back. Kerr and Doug had been nothing but kind to her, and were integral parts of her saga of adjusting to and accepting what she had become.
The nightmarish evening at the museum had proven to Cessily that she had more fight in her than she would have previously believed. But those were possessed plastic fish, not thinking, feeling human beings. This was an entirely different ordeal, and as Cessily and the others made their way to California she was uncharacteristically quiet. The silver girl’s mind was fast at work, sorting out the what ifs and the hows and the whys of it all, and just where she fit into the plan. Most of the students and staff accompanying her were truly battle tested, something Cess couldn’t claim for herself. This ordeal would be an exercise of learning the ropes live and in motion.
When the van finally came to a stop and the plan was detailed by Wolverine, Cessily did her very best to cast away the uncertainty in her mind and listen intently to his directions. She was given the task of protecting Ash, and that she could do. Her silver features set in determination, focussing much of her mass into her arms, adding to their density and preparing them to shape into the shields she’d come to rely on in her last bout of combat. Cess rested a hand on Ash’s back, unable to reach the giant’s shoulder, as she followed behind Honeybear, Gentle, Mistral and Logan. “I’ve got your back, Ash,” she assured the big guy, giving him a nod before focussing her sights on the blonde at the door.
The gust of wind and the sound of the door tearing from its hinges made Cessily jump, embarrassingly enough, and just like that it was on. Her right hand spread outward, rounding at the edges to form a circular shield while her left balled into a fist that soon became punctuated with sharp mace-like studs. The peacefully snoozing dirtbags behind the threshold would undoubtedly begin to come to their senses, and on Logan’s move the team would be in the mix. Adrenaline rushed through the young mutant, her eyes wide and scanning the squalor before her. There were a lot of them… more surly looking thugs than she was expecting. But what this team lacked in quantity, it made up for in quality. Keeping close to the teammates she was meant to protect, Cessily held her breath in the seconds before the carnage began, unsure of what lay ahead but as ready as she could be for the task at hand.

Darting in as soon as Mistral sent the door flying in, Logan snorted as it had caught two of the guys at the door and sent them deep into the peaceful fog of concussionland. Knowing that Gentle, Honeybear, Mercury, and Old Lace would be on his tail, Logan grinned as a buffet of assholes started to stumble to.
While most would look at the Sons of Anarchy rejects and shit themselves in terror, Wolverine simply saw them as little bits of canvas to paint a tapestry of brutality upon.
As several swarmed forward with bleary eyes, Wolverine knew he couldn't take them all. Grabbing the first and settling his feet where he wouldn't be pushed back, Logan lowered his head into the first punch, letting his adamantium skull take the punch. The force shooting into the man's wrist and the wet snap of broken bone slowed the horde a bit.
A light flexing of small but powerful muscles normal humans didn't have rippled across the back of Logan's forearm. A soft snickt from his left hand whispered as he grabbed the neck of the now crippled biker.
And he raked across the stomach of the thug.
Dropping the now maimed and disembowled biker to the floor to add his high pitched screams and cries to the chaos, Logan glared at the rest and flicked his hand and claws. Red droplets splattered across the faces of those minions as a deep and low laugh echoed from Wolverine, a cruel gleam in his eyes as he saw his prey.
All of it was a series of mental ploys, psychological warfare to throw the enemy off of their game. And it also whispered one thing to those who saw Logan. It said I speak violence as well. Better than you all can. With less mercy than you all have. Be smart. RUN.
The problem was that Nona didn't recruit people for their brains. So several thought they were actually bad ass enough to take on the mutants making their way in, and swarmed the group.
Awakening at Shadowcat yanking her up and putting a knife to her throat, Nona blearily looked up and threw a hand in Kitty's face out of instinct, trying to rip into the woman's face. She screeched out "Jonah!" as she registered the knife at her throat, hearing screams and noises that couldn't be anything good in her place of business.
She knew it couldn't be cops as she had people that would tip her off. Clenching her jaws, Nona knew that it had to be that ungrateful bitch Kerr that did something here. Which the woman asking about Kerr seemed to indicate.
Seeing Nona being held by someone with a knife to her neck, Jonah knew that he had to act fast. So charging at the woman holding the blade, he lowered his shoulder to make contact.
Which if Phantom and Glitch would have been forthcoming about their misadventure with Jonah, Kitty would have been forewarned that Jonah could shut down mutant powers if close to them. But without that knowledge, there was no way she would know that Jonah would actually connect with her in his tackle.
Outside, James was walking back after trying to talk some girls into coming over to Nona's place. He thought getting to plow them a few times would be fun before getting them hooked on something and getting them turned out, and would add some extra money to the bottom line.
But he'd come up dry, and as such was making his way back after clearing his head.
Seeing an odd van, he slowly walked up to see who it was, and looked inside the window. His eyes widened as he saw Arsenic and Cypher, with his eyes glued to Doug. Sure the guy had the start of a beard and looked haggard, but James KNEW it was the little shit he'd shot.
"i killed you...." James said in a stunned voice as he stared at Doug, not fully registering Arsenic.
OOC; Skipping Backup this time as she has not been found yet.

Mistral darted into the fight behind Logan, because the best place to be was behind the guy disemboweling people. Gross. She could never unsee that. If he had been coming at her with that murderous glint in her eye she probably would have dropped everything and hightailed it out of there.
The idiots in the house didn't have the sense God gave a pigeon though, because they immediately charged the group. Even with one of their number bleeding out on the floor.
Since she didn't much care if she caused damage she redirected the door which was still inflight, slamming it into one of the leather clad idiots. There. Another huge gust of wind was flung at the oncoming horde, strong enough to slow them down at the very least and fling a few more across the room. She darted past and scanned the first room, plenty of bodies, no Kerr. Where would they be keeping her in a hellhole like this? A back room? A closet? A basement, wait did California have basements? Kaylee wasn't actually sure anymore which parts of the country did or didn't.
More thuds and shouts from upstairs now, but seeing as the idiots on the ground floor were waking up and instead of staying put coming to investigate there was plenty to handle there. Not very challenging, but the high numbers were a pain in the neck. As long as none of the team panicked, they'd be fine, but the idiots were slowing them down. "Wolverine, can't you smell her, track her down?" she called to him. "We can handle these idiots." Forget the powers, they had a dinosaur on their side.

Ash's power made him the designated healer. In almost any situation the young superheroes would deal with, someone would inevitably be more well equipped to deal with the threat than him. All he should ever need to do was stay out of the way and let the people with more combat-oriented powers take care of things.
Except here. Their targets today were a bunch of bikers running the full range on the scale of Drunk to Hungover. This wasn't a fight, this was a god damn bar brawl, with NORMAL HUMANS. And Ash had grown up in a bar.
The only way this could be more up his alley would be if it happened between ring ropes and everyone was wearing spandex.
Still, while Wolverine, Mistral, Gentle, and Mercury could handle most of them, the sheer numbers of the men meant Ash had at least a couple targets that managed to get through - two, in particular. Which was quite alright with him. "Hup!" Ash grunted, as he reached aside and grabbed a bar stool, then brought it around in what might as well have been a baseball swing to bat the incoming thug down-range. The man managed to realize the incoming Bad Day enough to get a block up, but there was a point where blocking something with bare arms didn't help. Getting hit by a bar stool wielded by someone who could bench press most people was one of them. The stool broke, but the man crumpled with it. Just to ensure he was out of the fight, however, Ash grabbed the man by the back of his cut and heaved him several feet across the room. He crashed through a table, and returned to having the good sense to stay down.
The other biker decided to come at Ash armed with a knife that probably would have gotten Paul Hogan's approval. Being limited to Normal Human combat tactics, knives always annoyed Ash - they ensured SOMEONE was going to get hurt in the fight. The difference is that most people weren't willing to risk a slight cut to avoid a worse injury, and most people didn't walk into the fight while freshly woken from a night spent seeing how many chemicals they could shove into his body. The result was quite possibly the world's most forecasted knife-thrust, so obvious that even Ash could move out of the way in time. The biker tried to turn and slash back, but his legs didn't seem to be moving in sync with his arms, and Ash easily caught him before the knife got anywhere.
"Y'all bad at this, man." Ash mumbled, before smacking the man's hand on a table to get him to drop the knife. The result was a string of slurred profanity... before Ash delivered a quick left-handed jab to the side of his head, only serving to slur it further. And then a second, then a third, all the while holding the man's arm out so he couldn't block. Ash resisted SO HARD to show off and suplex the man for good measure... but he had priorities right now.
One more punch for good measure, and the man was down.
"So... so much for sneakin' then?"

"We didn't call fer maid service boy." Nezhno knew what the term boy was referring to. The term causing Nezhno to shot an angered look at the guy and briefly consider powering up just to so he could see how deep he could bury the bigoted ass. Though he knew two things. They did not need a giant Nezhno stomping through the house, nor did they need his mutation deciding to have an adverse effect on him. Not today of all days. Instead, Nezhno accepted the man's challenge.
Mixed Martial Arts instructors would tell their students who were more grappler than striker to not get in a punching match with a striker. They would tell their more boxing inclined students to not get into a grappling match with a grappler. The idea was to fight your game and not theirs. The same held true for boxers and brawlers. Boxers should not get into brawling matches with brawlers and vice versa. Nezhno was poised enough to maintain his sweet science style while he duked it out with the flailing brawler. He was not keen enough to realize that the very act of engaging a brawler was engaging in brawling. Dirty fighters fought dirty, always.
As Nezhno blocked and delivered devastating counter punches, a thin meth biker junkie came up behind him and swung a ball bat. Catching Nezhno in the rib cage. Nez winced a bit, clenching his abdominal muscles. His vibranium tats absorbing a fair amount of the impact though he was going to have a nasty bat shaped bruise for a few days. Instinctively his arm dropped to trap the bat to his side. The Brawler in front of him capitalized on the exposed defense, throwing a hook. Like a good boxer, Nezhno's chin was tucked, causing the blow to glance off his shoulder and skim across his cheek.
Nezhno rotated with the blow, lessening its affect a bit more and took that trapped bat with him. Stumbling the guy forward. "Lace. Ask this fool where Kerr is." Though Old Lace was not one to ask questions, but if the guy did not want to be like the fat guy trapped in the car with the dinosaur in Jurassic Park the original, then he'd bark out the location. Though Nez doubted it would be that easy. Trusting his Dino companion to handle the meth head, Nezhno recovered from the blow to his cheek and came in with a low body blow to the kidney followed by an as strong as he could without his mutation uppercut to the guys bits and berries. Nezhno could dirty fight to. The guy started wheezing, gasping and choking as if trying to swallow back into place that which felt as if they had just pinged off the back of his head. Nezhno rose to his full height and brought his knee with him, catching the man in the jaw and dropping him to the floor.
To continue fighting or start checking rooms. Nezhno was not sure what the right answer was at the moment. They needed to handle these bikers, but they needed to find Kerr. So Nezhno opted for both. A new biker rushed in, punching at Nezhno, only to have his punch caught. Nezhno gripped the man's wrist, placed his other hand under the man's armpit and used it as a lever to direct the biker as he send him sailing towards a closed door, his face smashing it open so someone could check it.

Giving a nod as Arsenic said there might be some cameras, Cypher said "Got some programs working on brute forcing there way into the systems. If nothing else, I am going to erase traces we were here." Cause he wasn't going to leave Nona with any electronic evidence. And he was going to copy what information was available and look for people like police and councilmen who visited.
Cause never knew when some blackmail material was useful.
Though at the proclamation from James that he had shot Doug, Cypher looked at the face of the man that shot him and felt all of the blood rush from his face as it paled.
He didn't know what he would do if he saw James again, and his palms felt cold and sweaty. Felt a chill in his spine and snakes in his gut.
But then he felt fire erupt in his gut at the memory of being gut shot like some vile creature. At the callous nature of how it happened. At being let to die slow.
And he kicked the door as he swung it open, putting the force of his feet behind the door and knocking James down.
Taking his Stinger pistol, he hit the setting on it and set it to 'Stun', depressing the trigger and sending a bolt of blue energy that caused James to collapse back in a boneless looking heap, staring at the sky and unable to control any voluntary muscle.
Feeling his rapid breathing calm as he saw this murderer at his feet, utterly helpless, Doug felt himself becoming more steady. I faced this killer. And won, he thought in exhilaration.
Hearing a few screams come from the house, Doug looked at James and shook his head. "Remember how I told you to let Kerr go? How a few of my friends would probably kill all of you for taking her?" Kneeling down and turning James head to the source of the noise, Doug said "Listen." His smart glasses informed that they had hacked in, so Doug tapped on a wrist computer and projected an image of the carnage in Logan's wake, projecting it in front of James' face. "See? This is what is happening. To all of you," Doug said firmly. "You killed yourself and all of your friends. And your boss. You."
Dragging a trash can over, Doug then smiled and said "You shot me and left me to die painfully. Well. This time I brought my own gun." Resetting the power output to 'disintegrate', he fired at the trashcan. Both can and contents shriveled into dust under the yellow beam of energy. Taking a step towards James, Doug looked down coldly at James and said "Guess what? Mine won't even leave a body."

It. Was. On.
Cessily’s eyes widened instantly at the sight of Wolverine releasing the contents of one thug’s abdomen to fall freely to the living room floor. Instantly and all too late in the game, the ugly truth reared its inconvenient head: Cessily was way out of her depth. She’d only seen something like this on TV and in the movies, which was how she first attempted to rationalize and deal with what she’d witnessed. But it wasn’t a movie… It didn’t cut away from the violence and expertly distract you with something else. This was real life, and you couldn’t ignore it, not even by averting your eyes. The smell was horrific… the metallic tang of blood, the putrid stench of punctured intestines and spilt stomach acid. It was in this moment Cessily realized that the rosy picture of a smooth and painless extraction she’d tried to paint for herself on the trip over was a terribly naive bout of optimism. This was going to be brutal and messy and insane but she would be there to make sure everyone got out alive and in one piece. Most importantly, Kerr. The time for second guessing this decision and turning back was far too long gone at this point.
Her pre-preparations were apt enough, as she’d be relying on swinging around that extra fifteen lbs or so of mass in her left-arm-mace to club boozy bikers into submission. Cess left much of the clothing she’d traveled with back in the van, and was clad in form fitting spandex-like number suited specifically for combat and training. The garment she wore was crafted by Doug and Dr. McCoy to shift with her Mercury form, assimilating with the composition of her body as a means of maintaining modesty while using her powers. It also allowed for more creative use of her form, not needing to work within the confines of humanoid shapes while wearing it. And with how out of her league this entire mission was, she was going to have to pull out every trick in her arsenal just to keep up.
Cess was the type of girl to stick strictly to the instructions unless otherwise instructed, so when the person she was in charge of protecting smashed his way to the front lines and started bashing goons, she went scampering after him. Shield drawn and mace raised in preparation to bludgeon anyone dumb enough to get close, Cessily began this exercise in ass kicking.
Of course, there were plenty of volunteers.
The first thug to come after her had his force thwarted by the mailable diameter of Cessily’s shield, effectively breaking his hand on the dense metal before the bewildered dolt was clubbed upside the head by a frantic swing of her mace. Dazed and struck dumb by the first hit, the biker began swinging wildly. None of the hits did anything but injure him further, Cessily’s durable semi-solid form showing no worse for wear. “Get… off... me!!” She groaned, swinging her heavy left arm once more to connect with the back of the thugs head. The sick crack that resounded, followed by the thud of his limp body on the floor brough an equal mix of dread and relief to Cessily. Relief that didn’t last nearly long enough, and dread that would only continue to grow.
He’d be alright, right. He was just sleeping.
That’s what she’d tell herself, seeing as there was no time to linger on the subject of her assailant’s mortality. Her eyes were on a woman, dressed head to toe in leather and studs, gun drawn and pointed directly at Ash. Cessily's one task was to protect him, and she was seconds away from failing at just that. What she did next was downright stupid, but a calculated risk given the healer she was protecting. “Ash! Down!!” were the only syllables she could squeak out as she reached outward with her shielded arm first, the rest of her form flowing in a tidal wave of silver. Cessily’s mercury form spread like a sheet of metal, corners reaching to cover the blast trajectory of the small revolver just before it began spitting lead.
In an instant, she cursed herself for ever coming here. Well out of her depth and about to be shot to death for the greater good, in truth Cessily had very little business being in this group of skilled fighters. She winced, the sharp staccato of gunfire inspiring every fiber of her being to clench in anticipation for the pain that followed.
But none came. Each shot buried itself into Cessily’s metallic body, rippling through to the edges without making its way to the intended target. The only sensation she experienced with each shot was the pressure and pull of the force of each round embedding itself, only to be pushed back out the way it had entered. In a euphoric realization that she was essentially bulletproof, Cessily continued her forward motion until the last shot in the revolver was muffled underneath her dense body. She wrapped herself tightly around the biker chick, twisting her sheet-like form fully around the scraggly woman until the muffled protest finally fell silent.
Wide eyes surveyed the room, a mix of flying limbs and airborne bodies, the baddies not outnumbered but very clearly outgunned. Still, there was no sign of Kerr anywhere. “Ash, stay close. You now have permission to use me as a human shield,” she advised, knowing the guy wasn’t one to shy from a fight but hardly willing to risk such a close call again. In the room among the scuffle she heard aloud the question that had been plaguing her since they stepped foot into the house.
Where was Kerr?
