Pietro Django MaximoffNicknames/Aliases-
37Date of Birth-
Freelance Courier/Messenger, Freedom Fighter/ Overprotective Brother
Pietro’s personality is very much a byproduct of his mutation. Even before his powers manifested he was an aggressive child, preferring to live in the fast lane so to speak, not taking too kindly to authority or anything that he perceived as getting in his way. Once his superhuman speed developed he became discontented with the idea of living life quietly, overcome with a powerful desire for new and exciting sensations. Feeling that chasing this need for new experiences was the only way that the world could keep up with him, Pietro grew into a rebellious young man. Arrogance followed and has stayed with him into adulthood. Perceiving the world at a much faster rate than most has left him with an over inflated sense of self. He can recall information and complete actions before a typical person has even considered their next move. Why wouldn’t he think that he was better?
Often moving faster than he thinks, Pietro is very impulsive, lacking the ability to plan and reason. He will jump into any situation with barely a single thought for the consequences of his actions and will rarely stick around long enough to shoulder any responsibility. In fact, he almost completely lacks any real understanding of how his behaviour adversely affects others, through choice rather than ignorance. Almost everything is someone else’s fault with Q not appreciating that he could ever be the one to blame. Such inability to forward plan has often left him at the mercy of his twin sister who he relies on (though he will deny it if asked) to organise him when he otherwise cannot. She is one of the few people who can get away with telling Pietro what to do even if he does grumble about it from start to finish.
Hand in hand with his arrogance and impulsive nature is Q’s dedication to his sister. Because he is, in part, dependant on others to do the rational thinking for him, he is very closely tied to his family. He is incredibly loyal to those that he would consider to be close to him although that list is short. With Wanda specifically, Pietro’s loyalty often strays into over-protectiveness and possessive behaviour. He has seen his sister through enough hurt and has no desire to see her experience it again. If this means threatening every man or woman she lays eyes on or appearing quick as a flash to whisk her away from any situation he deems unacceptable well then sobeit. Despite an often frosty approach to those around him, Pietro longs to feel accepted and valued. Although you’d be hard pressed to get him to admit it, he is very much aware that his mutation makes him difficultLikes-
- Wanda- she’s his only family, for a good while it was just the two of them. The twins are extremely close and he loves the very bones of his sister.
- Disliking things- Pietro is a happy complainer; he’s only content when he has something to grumble about.
- Himself. He thinks he’s the bomb. Of course he does. Someone has to.
- Family. He doesn’t have much of one which is why it’s so goddamn important to him
- Chinese food. He eats a lot and Chinese is his go to takeout.
- Slow people- damn if he cannot stand when people are deliberately slow. Taking it easy is not a phrase in Pietro’s vocabulary.
- Wanda- He might love her but oh boy is she a pain in the ass. Some days his sister is more of a hindrance than a help. One he’d like to lock in a box away from pesky trouble.
- Patience- he doesn’t have any and he doesn’t like being told that he should have more. Others should demonstrate it towards him of course, it’s not his fault the whole world feels like it’s moving in slow motion.
- Discussing his age. You’re surprised he’s almost 40. So is he. Don’t bring it up.
- Salad. Because why would he want to eat tasteless green?
- Loyal- Once you get Pietro on side then he’ll defend you to the end.
- Book smart- He can process information pretty quickly so, as a result is pretty book smart. This doesn’t mean he’s particularly intelligent but he’s great at general knowledge quizzes!
- Always has snacks. What? He does. Boy needs to eat.
- Overprotective- Pietro is very close to his sister. He won’t hear a bad word said against her unless they’re coming from his mouth and he certainly won’t see harm done to her no matter how insignificant.
- Irritable- You try perceiving the world in slow motion and see if that doesn’t make you grumpy.
- Cynical- Q is of the firm belief that most people are motivated by their own self interest. Particularly humans, but mostly everybody. After all, he’s not interested in many other people than himself so why must it be different for the rest of the world.
Pietro is a mutant capable of moving at hypersonic speeds. His top speed is around Mach 10 (7,672 mph/12348 kph). He can maintain his top speed for a maximum of an hour but can maintain lower speeds for hours when in peak physical condition. In the past Pietro has used his speed to walk on water (which requires a speed of around 67 mph/108mph), to dodge bullets, run up buildings and pluck arrows out of the air. Speed Physiology:
Pietro’s body is adapted for travelling at speeds far in excess of normal human limits; his cardiovascular and respiratory systems are far more efficient than a baseline human, his body is able to metabolise almost 4x more of the energy content from food and his metabolism is more than 15x that of an average human. In addition, his body does not produce fatigue toxins at the same rate as a baseline human preventing forced rest after short periods. His mind is also able to process information at an accelerated speed allowing for him to perceive his surroundings whilst travelling at high velocities. Finally, his eyes are adapted to prevent damage whilst travelling, avoiding the rapid evaporation of surface fluids.Enhanced Durability/Superhuman Strength
: Enhanced musculature allows for Pietro to lift around 1000lbs with his upper body and in excess of 1 ton with his legs whilst in peak condition. His body is also capable of withstanding the impact force of his feet hitting the ground at mach speeds; incidents that might kill a baseline human at Pietro’s top speed would do not affect him in the same way, even though it will likely still hurt.Enhanced agility/Superhuman Reflexes
: Because Pietro’s mind processes information at greater speeds than an average human it stands to reason that his reaction time and reflexes are superhumanly quick. Additionally, greater flexibility and balance decrease the chance of injury whilst running at top speeds.Limits-
Whilst Pietro’s body and mind are adapted to allow for travel at speeds far greater than the speed of sound, he is not invulnerable. For example, if a bullet manages to strike him it will do the same damage to his body as to a baseline human, he is equally susceptible to any form of assault should his assailant manage to catch him. Additionally, his enhanced metabolism demands that he consumer considerably larger volumes of food than most. If his body is allowed to burn through the calories that he consumes, he will begin to tire and weaken in much the same way as any baseline human.
A particularly irksome limit or flaw in his mutation is his inability to slow down the rate at which his mind processes information enough to stay in line with others. The unfortunate side effect of this being that Pietro perceives the world as moving at a much slower rate than others. Whilst this causes little practical concern for Q, it has turned him into a particularly irritable and impatient man.Skills & Abilities-
Pietro is bilingual, speaking Serbian (which is understood across the Balkans) and English fluently having learned English as a second language after coming to the US. He speaks English with a heavy accent.
For a guy who’s pushing 40, Pietro looks good
, like really good. Apart from the white hair, which has been a part of him since birth, he really doesn’t possess any of the markers of a man fast approaching middle age. He likes to claim that it’s all down to hard work but really you only have to look at his twin sister to realise that it’s just good genetics. That being said, he’s no stranger to the gym, needing to keep himself in good condition for his powers to be most effective. He’s tall(ish) and wiry but muscular (just not stocky or built) he has the body of a runner- no surprises there. His complexion is pale, made more so by the white of his hair and glassy blue eyes.
His style when he is not working is always smart. Pietro is not a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy, he much prefers a tailored suit, open at the collar for a more casual feel. At a push when encouraged to dress down he might pair a nice shirt with an expensive pair of jeans but it would take a lot of pushing, probably from Wanda, to see him wear anything other than slacks. His hair is his pride and joy; he knows it is not typical (although thanks to hipster culture, less so) he will spend more time styling it in a morning than doing anything else. He’s also no stranger to personal grooming; manicures, waxing, facials. He’s pretty; an aesthetic he enjoys and works hard to maintain.Gear-
All of Pietro’s clothing is specially manufactured to withstand hypersonic speeds, most importantly his shoes.Additional Information-
Pietro owns his own messenger/courier business. Rather, he is a freelance messenger who, considering his speed, manages to cover the work of several bike messengers in one shift, earning himself a considerable profit without the need for employing anyone else. He works for a number of high profile clients who value his speed and discretion (he’s not discreet, he just doesn’t care) for completing sensitive deliveries.
Stari Slankamen, SerbiaImmediate Family-
Natalya Maximoff (mother), Wanda Maximoff (younger twin sister) Father unknown.Others-
Pietro was born and raised in the small fishing village of Stari Slankamen on the banks of the Danube, Serbia. His father was not on the scene but this was never a problem for Pietro who grey up happy with his mother Natalya and twin sister Wanda. For ten years the family, who were not wealthy by any means, got by on what little they had with little complaint. Natalya possessed gifts that divided local opinion but for the most part life was peaceful. Until one day it simply was not. With the numbers of villagers who viewed Natalya with suspicion finally outnumbering those who did not tensions began to run high. One night after the family had sat down for their evening meal, the villagers came for them. It took mere seconds for the angry shouts to turn to physical violence; their small home set alight in an attempt to run the witch out of the village. Acting quickly, Natalya ushered her children out of the back of the house, urging them to leave as quickly as they could. Fearing for their lives the twins did as their mother asked, stopping only when their legs could no longer carry them. They knew that their mother was dead, that they couldn’t go back to their home.
The twins learned to live off of the land and began a semi-nomadic life. It wasn’t safe for them to stay in one place for too long; the political situation across the balkans as this time was tense. Whenever they came to a populated area they would steal what they could to survive, taking shelter wherever they could find that was warm and dry.It was during this time, at the age of twelve that Pietro came into his powers, at roughly the same time as his sister. His super speed proved particularly useful for stealing without getting caught but their crimes did not go unnoticed; wanted posters were hung across the country. When the pair came to Belgrade, their lucky streak came to an abrupt halt. Wanda was caught by a US relief worker attempting to steal food and blankets. Although the woman only wanted to help, Pietro was immediately suspicious. He grabbed his sister and ran, only calming down when Wanda was able to explain, begging him to trust her. He had always been able to trust his sister; she was the only one that he could
trust. Returning them both to the relief worker, the twins explained their situation. They were taken to a shelter whilst the woman arranged for them to be relocated to the United States for a better life.
Pietro did not take well to being placed in foster care. Struggling to cope with his new found powers, he quickly began to feel constrained by the rules and regulations put in place by his new family. The twins had lived alone for long enough that he could not appreciate being told what to do. Furthermore, he was quick to grow impatient with those he found slow, in particular during class when he would become frustrated with the pace at which the teachers would work. Piotr was not necessarily more intelligent than the average student, but his ability to process information at a faster rate meant he was often left bored. He acted out and was the cause of being bounced from one foster home to another on more than one occasion. He learned to speak English quickly but did not make many friends preferring instead to keep to himself or to the company of his sister. When Wanda went off to college, Pietro opted not to follow but remained nearby. He couldn’t have been more angry when she met the man who would become the father of her children. Always overprotective and perhaps a little jealous, Pietro hated his sister’s love.
When Wanda fell pregnant, Pietro was beside himself. She was too young for motherhood and he was furious with the man who had done this to her, convinced that he wouldn’t take care of her. Despite his anger he stood by his sister, caring for as best he could during her pregnancy, running out for chocolate milkshakes whenever she craved them and would let him. When her twin boys were stillborn his heart broke for Wanda; he may not have felt that she was prepared for motherhood but Pietro would have never wished such a tragedy on the one person in the world that he loved. Whilst his sister took time to heal, he threw himself into his work, pulling long shifts as a courier gaining popularity for his unbelievable speed and efficiency. Although he was still young he had begun to make a reputation for himself as reliable, professional and discreet and soon Pietro was making exclusive deliveries for some of the more high profile members of New York society.
He was twenty-one when Magneto’s attack on the Cape Citadel Missile base in Florida revealed the existence of mutants to the whole world. Whilst Pietro had never tried particularly hard to hide what he was from the rest of society, this revelation hit him and his business hard. The worst kept secret in his business was now out there for public scrutiny and for a time he saw a dip in jobs. He used this time to rally, to align himself with others like him; it was time that mutants gained a voice and so Pietro followed his sister into a life of protests and political debates. Though business began to improve once more Pietro began refusing to work with humans, preferring instead to serve only the wealthy mutants in society.
The rapidly declining relationship between humans and mutants over the preceding years hit him hard and he grew even more bitter. His over-protectiveness towards his sister has only become stronger following the Florida attack; he will not see her hurt because of what she is, not after all that she had been through. He’s not interested in fostering peace between species, he’s just angry and while he doesn’t see himself politically aligned with groups like Brotherhood neither does he feel like he belongs with the X-Men. For now, Pietro is content to run his business, keep a watchful eye on his sister and fight the good fight whenever he is needed.

“Once again Quicksilver, the efficiency with which you were able to get the merchandise to us is outstanding. As always your discretion is appreciated.”
Pietro gave his contact a wide smile. He was standing still, a rare state for him to be in but this particular client did not appreciate it when he was in motion. They claimed that it was suspicious, Piet called bullshit but he knew not to say as much. He just made them nervous. Following the toothy smile with an exaggerated eye roll, he waved a dismissive hand in the direction of the person sat behind a large oak desk. “How many times must I tell you?
” He spoke in a thick Balkan accent although his English was impeccable. “It is not discretion when I simply do not care.
” It was true; Pietro had absolutely no interest in what it was that he carried between clients, nor did he see any value or entertainment in discussing his exploits with anyone else. Not that there were many that he could choose to gossip with. He was a terse man with little patience for most. People like him didn’t have many friends.
Turning away from the generously stacked bookshelves that sat at the back of the room, Pietro headed for the door. By the side of the ornate frame was a small side table covered with a lace sheet. Sitting on top of that was a delicate porcelain dish in which sat a fat brown envelope. It's simple paper form, curled at the edges and wrinkled was in stark contrast to the finery that surrounded it. Pietro would have given his right arm for an office like this; dark and moody, filled with artworks and furniture pieces that boasted of the occupants wealth. It was gauche, indicative of newly acquired money but the Serbian loved it. He didn’t see why a person would try to hide their fortune behind carefully selected, classy objects. If he had the kind of money that this client had, he’d have everything dipped in liquid gold. Pale fingers ran around the edge of the bowl, examining its fragile structure. He thought to ask how much it had cost but stopped himself short of sounding crass. Snatching the wad of cash up and depositing it in the pocket of a back he had slung over his shoulder.
Reaching for the heavy door he pulled it open without looking back. Although he knew that they could not see him, he offered his customer a sly smile. “Same time next month?
” His remark was phrased like a question but really it wasn’t a request. “You know where to find me.
” He said before making his way out into the hall. Clear of disapproving eyes he cracked his neck and waited for the door to click shut before leaving the building as fast as his legs would carry him.
